Best of Hilton Head

Deciding whether or not to bring your dog on vacation can be a tough decision - especially if you're unfarmiliar with the area and local regulations. Fortunately for those who have chosen Hilton Head as a vacation spot, there is no need to leave furry friends behind!

Hilton Head is somewhat of a dog-lover's haven when it comes to vacation areas. There are a great variety of pet-friendly beaches, restaurants, parks and vacation homes on Hilton Head. Here are the best things to do with your pet in Hilton Head.

Enjoy Hilton Head's Beaches with Your Dog

Family walking with dog on the beach

People from all over the world come to Hilton Head to enjoy the beaches, but plenty of dogs come to enjoy the sun and the sand too! Pack a picnic, grab your beach chairs, and load up the car with your family, friends, and pets. Please remember that persons in control of animals on the beach are required to remove and properly dispose of the animal’s excrement.

Dogs are allowed on the beach under these rules:

*Dogs are not permitted between 10am and 5pm the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day

Dogs must be on leash:

  • Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. April 1 through Thursday before Memorial Day
  • Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Tuesday after Labor Day through September 30
  • Must be on leash or under positive voice control at all other times

A Pet-Friendly Park for the Whole Family

If you find yourself beached out but still want to let your dog enjoy the outdoors, check out Hilton Head’s very own dog park. It is in the Chaplin Community Park, located just off William Hilton Parkway between Singleton Beach Road and Burke’s Beach Road, which is extremely close to many of Vacation Homes of Hilton Head’s properties. Allow your dog to mingle with other four-legged tourists while playing in the completely fenced and “double gated” park, so your dog can enjoy freedom off of the leash. Chaplin Commuity Park also offers tennis, basketball, hiking trails, picnic pavilions and beach access!

If you want to take a scenic walk with your dog on the leash, try the Sea Pines Forest Preserve or the Audubon Newhall Preserve which beautifully feature some of the Lowcountry’s unique wildlife.
